A very long time ago, long before the world was created, an all-knowing, all-powerful God full of love and compassion was sitting up in heaven one day thinking. About YOU.
Now remember. He is thinking of you before you were even born. Before you could make a mistake. Before you could hurt anyone or get into any kind of trouble. Before the devil or anyone else could tell you that you would never amount to anything in life. In short, the Lord God was thinking of you long before this world began with these four short words: “Let there be light.”
The Almighty did not want a creation full of robots. He did not want a people forced to obey Him whether they felt like it or not. Most of all, He did not want to be served because people were afraid of Him. (Now, the Bible does speak about fearing the Lord, but that simply means we are to revere Him and respect Him highly and do not regard Him lightly because He IS God, after all. He does not want us cowering in terror at the thought of Him, neither does He want us fearing that we’ll make a mistake and be cast into hell. That is NOT what the fear of the Lord is referring to. The Word says in the book of 1 John 4:18 that “there is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” God loved us so much that He sent His only begotten Son to this earth to DIE for us while we were sinning it up and having things our way, not even thinking about God or the effect that sin was having on our souls and in this world in general. Romans 5:8-10 states “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” Do you get the import of what I am saying to you! God loved us so much that He showed it to us (that’s what commendeth means) by giving up His Son to die on the cross for us while we were yet sinners! He did not wait for us to get our acts together. He did not tell us that when we were deserving enough, then He would think about saving our souls by the torturous and sinless death of One Who had never sinned. No, the joy of Romans 5:10 gives us something to rejoice about. For if we were reconciled to God through the death of His son while we were enemies, praise God we will be saved from the wrath of God through Him. But that is not the best part of this story, so let’s go back to what I was saying at the beginning: God did not want a bunch of automatons with no choices to be a part of His great Family. So, He gave us all free will. He gave us the freedom to choose Him or reject Him. To serve Him or to rebel against Him. He gave us so much freedom that we can actually tell the God of the whole universe “no” if we choose to.
Now, when God foresaw (saw it before it happened) all this, He knew that there would be many people who would exercise their free will and would be indifferent to and/or reject His love. Being a holy God, however, sin had to be punished and done away with and the bible says that the wages of sin is death.(Rom.6:23), for ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Rom.3:23) Good works will not get a person into heaven, for there is NO MAN who could keep the law of God perfectly. God required a blood sacrifice to atone for sin and there was only one Person Who could redeem mankind back to God and that was His Son, Jesus Christ. For Jesus was the One Who has been through every emotion that we have, yet He did not sin. Therefore, we are not only enabled, but encouraged to go boldly to the throne of grace where we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in times of need. (Heb.4:15,16)
The best part out of this whole drama for the fight for the life of mankind is simply the sweetest, most mind-boggling thing that I know. And that is this: Jesus Christ, the King of King and the Lord of Lords, the Lord of Glory, actually gave up the throne of heaven itself for YOU. He, the One Who created all things (“all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:3), actually gave up heaven, was born to this world of a virgin, and lived for 33 years on this earth, enduring persecution and disrespect, hatred, and disbelief in order to give to YOU the free gift of eternal life. That is a life without pain or sorrow or suffering or death for all of eternity and God Himself will wipe every tear from your eyes. (Rev.21:4) Jesus died for the very ones who beat Him, who spit upon Him, and who mocked Him as He bled and died upon the cross. He could have come down off of that cross at any time. Indeed, He never had to get up there in the first place. He could have left us here on this earth to suffer eternal hell for our sins, but He did not. Love put Him on that cross and it kept Him there until He uttered the words that sealed satan’s fate forever: “It is finished.”
I wake up astounded every day at the awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping truth that Jesus actually loved me enough to give up heaven and suffer a hideous death for me because He loved me so much and wanted me to be reconciled to God. And I am even more astounded at a God Who loves me so much that He sent His only begotten and beloved Son to this earth to take my place and pay sin’s penalty for me and for every man. For it is not God’s will that ANYONE perish, which is why He has waited all of this time without pouring out His wrath upon mankind. “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)
I want you to do something for me. I want you to close your eyes and open your heart up to your importance. For if you were important enough for One to send His only Son to die for you and for that Son to love you enough to lay His life down for you, then that makes you a VIP indeed!
Accept the love of God, for it is as real as the air you breathe and will be here for you long after you take your last breath. For in truth, your life will only be beginning when you die. We are all going to live forever. It is up to our choice in life whether that will be in paradise with God forever or if we will be cast into the lake of fire to be with satan and his angels for all of eternity. “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Rev.20:15)
Just as He did in times past, God has set before you life and death; blessings and cursings. As God said, choose life, that it may be well with you and with your children forever.
I want you to discover the love of Jesus. It’s the most incredible force there is. Read my previous blog posted last night entitled “I Have Learned.” You will find what you have been searching for your whole life. Completion, fulfillment, absolute satisfaction, and a love that is unlike no other. No earthly love can touch the love of God. No man or woman can give you love and fill up every single empty space that you have inside and heal every single hurt like God can. I encourage you to make HIM your valentine. With Jesus Christ, every day is Valentine’s Day. Oh, how I love Him and how He loves me.
Blessed be the Name of the Lord.
