It is sometimes challenging to do what the Lord says because we are so used to living by our five senses. But God gives us the grace to follow His commandments. We are given all things that pertain to life and godliness, according to 2 Pet.1:3, according to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. So, we do not have to worry about being caught off-guard or without the proper tools to do the job that the Lord would have us to do. He has built it all into His Word.
The Word tells us to look not at the things that are seen, but to the things that are not seen. We are not to look at our present circumstances or the things that are presently going on in our lives, but we are to look to Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith. We are to look to Him for the meeting of our needs and the changing of those things that we see with our human eyes. We are to look through the eyes of faith, for those are the things that will last. “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Cor.4:18)
The prevailing circumstances are NOT what the child of God is to have his eyes on, although that is easy to do. No, we are to be focused on the Word of God and what God says about a thing. The rest does not matter. And God says that we are to look at the the things which are not seen. Those things that we see by faith. We are to call those things that be not as though they were. (Rom.4:17)
Faith is the currency that we use to “buy” the things that we want from the Lord. It is what everything on heaven and earth is based upon. And that faith must be based upon what we cannot see. For the things that are seen are only temporary and will be done away with. But through the eyes of faith, we see the things that will last forever. That is the way our sovereign God has planned it.
God will do what He has promised us He would in His Word. It is up to us to follow His commandments and precepts. And one of those precepts is that we do not look to what we can see with our five senses, but instead look at things through and with the Spirit. He is our guide and He will help us to look through the lens of faith.
Have faith in God. Trust Him with all of your heart. He will do the rest. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Prov.3:5,6)
Pray that the Holy Spirit will open up your eyes of understanding so that you will be able to see the truths in the Word of God. He will do so as you ask in faith, nothing wavering.
So, let us look at those things that are not seen so that we can see the miracle-working power of God in our lives. He wants to do it and He will do it. All we have to do is our part and that part is to have faith and believe in the unseen.
Blessed be the Name of the Lord
