So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Rom.10:17) What does that mean? Let’s break it down for you:
Jesus Christ is the Word. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made.“ (John 1:1-3)
Faith is something you believe in that does require evidence or proof. We simply believe. And that belief comes from hearing from Jesus, Who is the Word itself. What Jesus says, we believe, and we act on that belief accordingly. When He said He gave us power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, we go right out and tread upon the enemy, knowing that he will in no way be able to hurt us. (Luke 10:19)
When Jesus told us not to worry about what we are to eat or drink or put on, we take Him by faith and do not worry, knowing that our needs are supplied as we put the kingdom of God first in our lives. (Matt.6:33)
Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. (Heb.11:1) The worlds were framed by the Word of God. Everything was made and upheld by His Word and that Word is Jesus Christ Himself. He made everything and by Him everything consists. Our faith rests upon Him. So then our trusting in God comes by hearing and that hearing comes from the Word of God and Jesus is the Word.
So, if you want faith, all you have to do is see what Jesus says about a matter, believe what He said, and act on that belief. Hear him with your heart, not just your ears. As Jesus said, he that hath an ear to hear, let him hear.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
Blessed be the Name of the Lord.
