Waiting. We are all waiting for something. Whether it be a baby or a promotion, a vacation or a new car, we wait and we wait and we wait.
Our waiting sometimes entails impatience and a bit of dissatisfaction, at times. We often want the object that we are waiting for to produce itself instantaneously in our lives instead of patiently waiting for the outcome of our desires. But if we wait upon the Lord, we not only will receive those things that we are believing Him for, we will be strengthened and encouraged. “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Is.40:31)
Many a time have I waited upon God and He has never failed to renew my strength. He has never failed to mount me up as that eagle that He speaks of. During times of great fatigue, I have received energy and a quickening of my spirit through the power of the Holy Spirit and the love of God.
As I waited for God, He gave me His grace and His great mercy. He undergirded me and lifted me up, both in my spirit and in my mind. His love wrapped around me as a cloak as I waited upon Him.
We receive many benefits as we wait upon the Lord. Benefits of health and wealth of spirit. God endues us with the ability to do all manner of exploits as we wait upon Him and put our trust and confidence in Him. As the Word says, we inherit the earth. “For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.” (Psalm 37:9)
There is a great exchange that takes place between God and ourselves as we wait upon Him. “And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.” (Is.30:18) His love and His mercy are poured out upon us. We are truly blessed, as the Word states.
It is not always easy to wait upon God. It takes patience and perseverance and a measure of faith. Faith that God will do what He says He will do. Faith that we WILL receive if we wait upon the Lord.
We gain poise and the virtue of fortitude by waiting on God. We also obtain wisdom and insight. The benefits that we receive by waiting upon the Lord are boundless and endless, for like His mercy, His Word endures forever and His truths will always stand.
I encourage you to wait upon the Lord. You will be blessed beyond measure and you will find treasure beyond compare.
Wait, I say, on the Lord.
