I had to engage in some spiritual warfare this morning. When I awakened, I felt a feeling of great intimidation, followed by feelings of fear that seemed to come out of nowhere. The first thing the Spirit said to me was, “Let not your heart be troubled. Get into the Word and study the scriptures that I have given to you.”
So, I got out my notebook that I had been writing down the scriptures that God had been giving to me in the past few weeks and began to meditate on them and quote them outloud. Such as:
“As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is round about His people from henceforth even for ever.” (Psalm 125:2) And ” For I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.” (Zec. 2:5) And “He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust. His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” (Psalm 91:4)
As I spoke the word of God, the devil and his imps had to flee. “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he shall flee from you.” (James 4:7) The Word of God is our shield. And as we use the weapons of our warfare (“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;”) 2 Cor. 10:4, we pull down the strong holds of fear, doubt, intimidation, and any other weapons that the enemy constantly try to bombard us with so that we will doubt God and get into fear, which is a major door that is opened for the devil to get in and wreak havoc with our minds, our emotions, and our lives. So, we must put on the whole armor of God. (“Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11)
Above all, we are to use the shield of faith. “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” (Ephesians 6:16) “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” (1 John 5:4) Jesus overcame the world and He gave us the power and the tools to do the same thing. Those tools are the Word of God and the authority of His Name. Through His Name, we bind satan and we loose whatever we need from the Holy Spirit to handle whatever challenges we are presently going through.
Now, don’t be deceived. The enemy would have you “worrying about the devil” constantly. Worrying and wondering about what he will do to you, to your family…to whatever belongs to you. But we are NOT to concentrate on the devil. We are to bind him and resist him and then go right back to following Jesus and keeping our minds and heart seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness. The devil has already been defeated on the cross over two thousand years ago. All we are to do is to maintain our victory given to us (“Nay, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.” Romans 8:37) by believing God and His Word, speaking and applying that Word to our lives and circumstances, and then walking in the Spirit. (“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:6) God wants us to walk in the freedom, peace, joy, and love that are our heritage and birthright as children of God. The devil wants you to be constantly in a state of agitation and fear about what is going to happen to you. But all we are to do is follow Jesus. That’s all. The rest is left up to God, the Father, and it is His good pleasure to give us the kingdom. (Luke 12:32)
We will be engaged in spiritual warfare until the time of our Lord’s return. But I do not want you to be afraid, for we fight a defeated foe. Now, don’t get me wrong. The devil DOES have power and he is an intelligent and relentless foe. But his power is limited and we have all authority over ALL of his power, through the Name and the blood of Jesus. Jesus said, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and sorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Luke 10:19) We are to have the devil on the run. Not the other way around. He does not have the authority to do whatever he wants to do to the children of God who know who they are in Christ and who use the weapons that God has provided for all of His children.
Stop being afraid of the devil. His fate has already been sealed. Soon enough, he will be roasting and tormented in the lake of fire. “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” (Rev. 20:10)
I highly recommend a book on spiritual warfare entitled “Strongman’s His Name…II, written by Drs. Jerry and Carol Robeson. In it, you will find out not only the wiles of the devil, but that he is a defeated foe and how to keep him on the run. You can find it on Amazon at a great price.
Spiritual warfare is real. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against pricipalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12) But be of good cheer. Jesus has already overcome the enemy and so have we. “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” (Rev. 12:11)
satan has already been defeated. We win! Now just continue to walk in the victory that is yours in Christ Jesus.
Blessed be the Name of the Lord.
